I've had mediocre experiences in the past using many other drills. I've had this one at work for about 6 months and it gets passed around by an entire team of techs. It has shown no signs of slowing down, mechanical failure, or decline in run time. It seems as if Dewalt has done a very solid job building this unit. This is the first lithium ion powered tool I've had a chance to use on a regular basis. I like the defined shut off of the low voltage cut. It simply stops when the battery is done. Just swap it for the one in the charger n keep on working. The batteries are also backwards compatible with older Dewalt batteries n tools. I'd like to try other lithium powered tools from other brands, but given the experience I've had using this one, the only way I'd buy a different brand is if Dewalt did not manufacture the tool I was looking for...1 of 1 people found the following review helpful.Heavy-Duty-XRP-DrillBy J. MichelI have 2 of these drills and use them daily. They have enough power to drive a 2-1/8 bit through a 1-3/4 door without hesitation at high speed (not recommended!). The 3 speed gear box is a great design and is a real asset for different tasks. Add to this that it is constructed of metal, I get a feeling it well last better than plastic with the heavy use they get.The only downside is that it is not a "lightweight" drill. Even with the Lithium-Ion battery it is a hefty piece of equipment. I also use the DEWALT DCF610S2 12-Volt Max 1/4-Inch Screwdriver Kit as a screwdriver since this beast (DCD960) will rip the heads lag bolts if you are not paying attention. It is a wonderfully light and capable screwdriver (DCF610S2). The metal chuck holds bits well, much better than the cheaper plastic version. The battery's hold a good amount of work in them and usually can make it through a day on the 2 included unless I am doing non stop drilling. Balance is good, better than the hammer drill IMO. Side handle great and backward compatibility is a real plus. I much prefer an SDS hammer drill for concrete, so I like having a drill like this that does the job it was designed for and less things to break or get in the way.See all 2 customer reviews...
