Cordless drills have become more powerful in recent years, but there's still something about a corded model that just makes it feel right. Packing a 6 amp motor, DeWalt's heavy-duty 3/8-inch VSR drill is a solid performer. Not too flashy or carrying too many extras, the VSR comes to work. And work it does. The VSR features single-gear, variable speed action, with an operating range of 0-2,500 rpm, and the highest torque rating in its class. An advanced brush system automatically stops the tool when the brushes wear out, preventing serious damage to the motor. This, coupled with an all-metal keyed chuck, glass-filled nylon housing, and all-ball-bearing construction, makes the VSR a drill built for years of trusty service.--Carl Thress The DEWALT Heavy-Duty 3/8-Inch VSR Drill is a versatile corded drill that accommodates bits for drilling in metal, wood and masonry, as well as wire wheel brushes and buffing wheels. This powerful, single-gear drill is controlled by a variable speed trigger switch and features a bubble level to ensure accurate horizontal or vertical drilling. The ergonomically contoured handle with grip texture provides easy handling and the built-in belt clip on the top of the drill makes it easy to hang on a wall hook or utility belt. If you're drilling (or driving screws) into pine 2 x 4's, plywood, etc. this drill has plenty of power. The light weight also makes it easy to use for extended periods. This is a great little drill for light-to-medium duty. Understand that if you're remodeling an old house (75+ years) where the wood feels like more like stone, you'll find it difficult driving screws and boring large holes. If you already know you're going to be drilling rock-hard materials, go get a Milwaukee Magnum (a much higher torque, more expensive and noticeably heavier tool).5 of 6 people found the following review helpful.Pretty good, but there's betterBy Eric BoyerOverall, this is a good drill. It's powerful, has a great chuck, isn't heavy, works well as a screwdriver, and isn't too loud. My only real complaint is that the handle isn't very comfortable. It's made only of plastic (no rubber grip), and this plastic has an abrasive pattern in it. It's not too hard to get used to (especially if you have tough hands), but nevertheless it's still uncomfortable. Also, something I don't like about most corded drills (this one included) is that the handle is at the back of the drill, aka behind the center of gravity of the drill. So, when holding the drill you have to hold it back to keep it level, which often makes you accidentally press the trigger. Most cordless drills and some corded ones have the handle near the center to prevent the drill from tipping forward or backwards when you're just holding it up in the air. Unfortunately, this isn't one of them. Before I got this drill I was concerned about how it would perform when using it as a screwdriver because (like most corded drills) it doesn't have a clutch. For example, my dad's old corded drill has lots of momentum and no clutch, so after letting go of the trigger the drill keeps going for quite a while, which makes screwing quite difficult because it often puts the screw in too far. But, I was happy to find out that this DeWalt stops fairly quickly after letting go of the trigger (despite having no clutch) so it works well as a screwdriver.I know of some other drills that have more comfortable handles and that have the handle at the center of the drill, so if you're concerned about comfort then I suggest looking elsewhere. But, if a little discomfort doesn't bother you then this will be a great drill for you.1 of 2 people found the following review helpful.Decent, hard-working drillBy S. LittonI have found this DeWalt drill to be a very good medium-priced drill. I was disappointed that it did not have the level as described by Amazon, but since I wanted a keyed chuck electric drill, and there aren't many to choose from, I decided to keep this one. It's very smooth and relatively quiet - a hard worker it seems. I wish the cord could be detached for storing, but overall I think it will serve us well for years.See all 5 customer reviews...
