I ordered this from an outside source from Amazon (even though I was waiting for Amazon to have it first and at a comparable price)... anyway, before I had the DWP849 and it worked well for me for the application part but seemed temperamental when it came to being ran for a long period and me trying to press the trigger and it deciding that it did not want to start till it was ready. Was able to return to Amazon (benefits of Amazon) and placed myself on the product notification for the DWP849X. As mentioned I got it, and about a week earlier then offered here. What this DWP849X has is the rubber front, which was exposed on the DWP849 and caused one to be very nervous that if the polisher grabbed and jolted when not firmly held you could mare the paint. The RPM dial is in a better position and has a larger range. I took mine through all the speeds to know what the sounds were like just to make sure it was attenuating the speed correctly and from the sound, the revolutions increased and decreased accordingly. Benefits if you are planning to use a hook and loop pad the pad is provided for you in this case where before this was a separate purchase, and the yellow rim of the pad is soft cushioned and great for once again no marring the paint. Handle and finger pull and lock are easy and constant. It comes with both handle types, stick bar and u-grab bar. This seems well worth the extra few dollars when compared to the DWP849. At time of this write-up Amazon though was at 299.00 and others were around 200.00 with shipping and this is what I found also around the internet plus or minus 15.00. For a sander I am unsure of the benefits, but for the polisher aspect over the DWP849 I like it for the minimal price jump between the two models. If you have hand polished in the past, you will never go back once you feel the difference and the time you save... take the RPM's in the lower range (1200 - 1800) for most applications, and do not hold in one place or you will lift your paint.6 of 6 people found the following review helpful.Best Polisher on the market by far!!!By cwplumber130I ordered the dwt849x for my boat it's performance was excellent it is light easy to handle.
