Most of the lights included with toolkits are throwaway afterthoughts and are barely useful. The DCL040 changes that. This guy is rugged, easily positionable and QUITE bright. Actually it's brightness is what really sets this apart. I'm kind of a flashlight junkie and the DCL040 really gives some of my flashlights costing twice as much a run for their money. The secret is the CREE manufactured 1 watt LED. CREE LED's are pretty much cream-of-the crop and give off an extremely brilliant white light, which when coupled with a good reflector design, blasts your working area with a blanket of illumination. Which brings me to my next point. Runtime. LED's are notorious battery savers and this light is no different. Specs rate this as being able to last up to 11 hours with a 3.0 Ah and my own tests confirm this. I was able to get 11hours and 6 minutes of run time before the unit shut off. Which is awesome compared to the incandescent light that came with my Makita Lithium Ion kit, which only managed 4 hours on a 3 ah battery. As I stated earlier, the DCL040 is easily adjustable and positionable. The head can be pivoted 120 degrees and attached to the back is a metal clip that allows the light to be hung for hands-free illumination. But here's where I ran into the only major issue. The pivoting head. Although it is detented and clicks into place, it's not tight enough, so the head is easily moved if bumped. I mean, it's not loose enough to flail all around at that slightest touch, but it is quite easy to move. Not a deal breaker, but worth mentioning. All-in-all, I am quite impressed with this work light and can definitely reccomend it to someone looking for a bright, somewhat compact light source that will stand up to the day-to-day rigors of the job site.See all 1 customer reviews...
