The compact drill/driver’s two-speed (0-600 RPM and 0-2,000 RPM) transmission allows users to select the appropriate speed for the task at hand and is up to 30 percent faster than current drill/drivers on the market. Its high-power, high-efficiency motor delivers 350 unit watts out of maximum power for superior performance in light and medium drilling applications. A 1/2-inch ratcheting chuck with carbide inserts provides superior bit-gripping strength—reducing slippage during high-torque applications—thus providing longer tool life. Plus, DEWALT’s engineering and design team adjusted the drill/driver’s footprint and weight allocation for ideal balance and a lightweight feel, making the 3.4-pound tool easy to maneuver in tight areas. Meanwhile, the impact driver’s robust motor delivers 2,800 RPM—up to 43 percent faster than current impact drivers on the market. Its one-handed loading 1/4-inch hex chuck accepts and holds 1-inch bit tips for convenient fastening in tight spaces. Research shows that impact drivers are growing in popularity largely because of their smaller size and lack of kickback (or reactionary torque) thanks to the impact mechanism within the tool. Combined with its 5.55-inch length and 2.8-pound weight, the compact impact driver packs a serious punch in a small package.Endurance and Ease of UseDEWALT-designed electronics have been built into both tools’ switches to provide maximum life for the tools and batteries by helping to protect them from overheating, overloading, and deep discharge during use. The- 20-volt’s lithium-ion batteries provide up to 35 percent more runtime than existing 18-volt lithium-ion battery technology, and the included Energy Star-qualified charger has dual voltage capabilities and it is compatible with both 12-volt max and 20-volt max DEWALT lithium-ion batteries. The tools’ slim handles fit easily into users’ hands, increasing the level of comfort during the course of long jobs, and the bright built-in LED work lights above the triggers have a 20-second delay that improves visibility in dimly lit spaces.About DEWALT's 20-Volt Max Lithium-Ion ToolsDEWALT’s line of 20-volt max lithium-ion tools features improvements in engineering and design to provide the performance, the ergonomics, and the innovation that contractors require. My needs have changed as I've grown in projects, and my old cheap black and decker sets have long since been replaced by Dewalts. I've had the Dewalt 18V kits for several years and I've been very happy with them. They last through most small jobs with one charge. They are solid, beefy, and have plenty of power, but are also pretty heavy. I nearly converted over to the Li-ion packs, but the price always kept me from it. Then came the 12v max line, I thought they were perfect for nearly every small job and home use. They are light, solid, and have surprising power in a compact size. The charge they hold may not last the entire project, but the packs are so cheap you can buy a couple extra to finish up (and not break your wallet).Well now we have the 20v Max line. To be honest, if I didn't need to buy some new 18v packs, I wouldn't have even considered getting these. But I did, and I'm not disappointed. They all have the same solid, beefy Dewalt design, but now they are light and compact as well. They appear to be nearly as small/compact as the 12v max tools. And these tools hold a charge for much longer than their 12v cousins. (Sorry, I haven't done a comparison test on how long they all last, 12 vs 18 vs 20).The new Impact driver is equal to the 18v version but lighter. Function and size seem nearly the same, but the 20v is slightly smaller and a good bit lighter. The new compact drill is not as small as the 12v version, but is slightly smaller than the 18v compact. power/speed seem to be equal to the 18v and better than the 12v, as you would expect.Charging seems much faster (about 30min or so, but don't hold me to it as I didn't discharge the pack fully).Even the case is great, since I'm always using the impact and drill they go with me everywhere and take the most abuse, the hard case is a welcome change, than the soft bags of before. In summary, I'd recommend this set if you are new or moving up from the inexpensive (and usually low quality) brands. If you're already heavy into the old 18v stuff, I wouldn't bother with a switch until you have to replace them. In all fairness, I have not had much experience with other brands kits (some Milwaulkee, a Bosch, and a Makita) I'm sure they are all great sets, but I was already using Dewalt so I stuck with them.3 of 3 people found the following review helpful.Light, powerful, easy to useBy R. BarrettI'm a home improvement guy, but i'll say that I do quite a bit of improving, always trying to think of something to build or fiddle with. I had received a Craftsman 18v drill several years ago and it was OK, but it didn't hold much of a charge, was very heavy and unbalanced, and took forever to recharge.A few years ago I picked up a Ryobi 4v Lithium screwdriver which I fell in love with, to handle 99% of my household projects. Recently I needed a drill. My Craftsman finally gave out after driving two screws into some pine. My 4v Ryobi isn't meant for this kind of job, so I went out shopping. This pack seemed affordable and I liked having two tools for different jobs.I really love these tools. Light, well-balanced and full of power. The impact driver is my new best friend with it's easy to change bits, LED lights and belt clip that effortlessly holds the drill in my jeans pocket. The power and control on both tools is amazing and needs to be given serious respect. Overall I've found this set to be a nice bargain for me. I'll use the heck out of them over the next couple of years, starting with a deck i'm going to build next summer. I'm very happy with this purchase and I recommend it to any homeowner.9 of 12 people found the following review helpful.A bit overkill for home use, but excellentBy J. S. GreenThis electric drill and impact driver set is very high quality, easy to use, and quite convenient due to the battery operation. On the other hand, it is rather heavy, and since the drill can function as an impact driver this paired set may be more suitable for those who need to use an impact driver frequently. Pro:Nice carrying and storage case. The two tools and the battery charger fit in securely. Both tools are very comfortable in the hand. The drill has good capabilities; two speeds, and the ability to vary the torque by means of a ring around the barrel (though they recommend that one checks the actual torque with a specific wrench, rather than rely on the settings). It is reversible. This is by far the best drill I have ever used.It is easy to put bits into the drill, without a chuck. I like the extra drill bit holder in the handle. There is a snap connector for the impact driver that takes 1/4 inch hex bits.Convenient belt clip on both tools (although with the weight I'd suggest a VERY snug belt). The impact driver has a nice three LED light that illuminates the work space; the drill provides a single LED which still manages to do a good job in dim environments. The impact driver is very small and will work well in a constricted space. Two batteries are provided, so if one is only using a single item, a spare battery is ready.Con:Weight. These two are heavy, due to the batteries. One pays for the convenience of not having that power cord. Summary:Very good products, highly recommended. I'm not sure that the impact driver will be as useful to the average user as the drill. If you need both, this is a great set. Otherwise, you may want to opt for just the drill.See all 7 customer reviews...
