DEWALT DCT414S1 12-Volt Max Infrared Thermometer Kit

DEWALT's new 12 Volt MAX infrared thermometer is ideal for electricians, plumbers, remodelers and HVAC contractors tasked with scanning for temperature changes and locating potential trouble spots on the jobsite. With the ability to measure temperatures from negative 20 degrees Fahrenheit to 932 degrees Fahrenheit and a patent-pending LED hot and cold spot indicator, the IR thermometer provides visual and audio alarms to alert contractors in noisy work conditions. Maximum initial battery pack voltage (measured without a workload) is 12 volts. Measured under a workload, nominal voltage is 10.8. Includes a 12V Max Li-Ion Battery (DCB120F). note on battery technology: When batteries are being charged and discharged a chemical reaction is taking place, and if it is too hot or cold the chemical reaction is disturbed causing a loss of runtime. when using the battery in cold climates to put the battery on charge first or do a couple quick applications to get it warmed up. For optimum performance, do not store batteries in areas where the temperature drops below 40 degrees Fahrenheit.

GrohThis Infrared Thermometer kit is a great tool for finding trouble spots and variations in temperatures. It comes with a case, 12-Volt rechargeable battery and the charging base. It charged in a very short time, just over an hour. The battery clips on securely and the unit has a great feel. It is an easy weight for holding, comfortable in your hands with a rubberized grip and display cover. The LED display is a bright and easy to read green. It feels fairly durable because of the rubberized case that is not only around the outside edges of the unit but also around the display screen which leads me to think it would hold up under a normal fall. The unit turns on when depressing the trigger and shuts off automatically after a couple of seconds.Controls include:* Fahrenheit/Celsius conversion* Minimum, maximum, and average recordings* Temperature readings to one decimal point* Alarm if the reading is above or below the set high and low temp limits. The alarm can be audible or visible (red and blue indicator lights) or both.* Hold and scan while temperature variations are read. This allows for you to find variations and hot or cold spots as well as areas that exceed the preset high or low limits.* Emissivity adjustments in .01 increments to adjust for different materials.* 12:1 distance to spot ratio, which means that for every 12" away from the object it will measure 1" of area. * Optional belt hook attachmentThe laser light traveled from one side of our house to the other (38') without any problem but the reading covers a much larger area. We were able to pinpoint specific household areas of heat loss around wall/floor edges, door frames, return vents and a floating floor on an addition. We can now look for ways to better insulate these area to cut down on some heat/AC losses. It was great to see that our new energy saving windows were actually doing their job.I have to admit that I'm not a contractor but I am a homeowner always looking to save money on heat or A/C loss. A very nice unit with a lot of features for the small contractor or homeowner.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful.EXCELLENT EXCELLENTBy rick67It is typical of a Dewalt Tool. I am very pleased with the unit. You simply press the handle button and point the laser light at the area where you want to determine the temperature. The green display will give you an instant read-out of the temperature. Walking along the floor of my kitchen with the device pointed to the floor, I could detect 1-5 degree (F) changes in the floor temperature. These differences were caused by inadedquate or no insulation in the basement under the flooring. In the basement, I used it to spot where cold air was coming into the house. You can point the laser beam over a fairly large distance (at least 50) feet. The only caveat with this method is that for every 12 inches the light travels, the temperature cone increases by one inch. This isn't really a problem because it can help you locate cold spots very quickly.I have begun insulating the right spots (or spots more in need of isulation) rather just guessing at where I should insulate. I believe I will save enough in heating costs in one year to pay for the unit.Constructrion is rugged, light weight and simple to use.See all 10 customer reviews...
