Most helpful customer reviews1 of 3 people found the following review helpful.OK for metal but bad choice for other materialsBy Peter MitchellI use the 5-1/2 for installing recessed light cans where I need to cut the holes for them in metal. For that use it works as well as any other bi-metal hole saw. After all the manufacturers are buying the same steel from the same suppliers so the performance is the same regardless of the brand. We usually buy DeWalt because they are easiest for us to find locally. For anything other than holes in metal sheet these bi-metal hole cutters are the worst possible choice. While it takes a heavy duty 1/2" stud drill to make holes in wood with this hole saw it takes only a 18 volt cordless drill to cut the same size hole in one inch thick plywood with a Blue Boar TCT hole cutter. Even the high end 18 volt cordless drills are not recommended by their manufactures for a hole larger than 2 1/8 inches in wood and this is a limitation of the bi-metal hole saw and not the cordless drill. The TCT hole cutters cut a lot faster and take a lot less charge from the battery and getting the cut plug out is a great deal easier too. First saw the hole saw on the Hole Pro website videos and as they say seeing is believing and I bought one and gave it a try. For wood, MDF, plywood, Hardie siding, chipboard, sheetrock, and plaster the TCT hole cutters from Blue Boar are amazing.
